Coorong Mulletways

For some time now, I have anxiously been watching the Coorong flow report waiting for the flood waters to clear. Of late there have been less than 10 gates open flowing through the system and with this being the case I decided it was time to bite the bullet and have my first land-based attempt at Coorong Mulloway. I decided to pack the wading gear and fish from the flats into deeper holes on the incoming saltwater tide. Fishing half pilchards and 5/0 hooks on my 9ft Shimano Shorespin I was not set up for small fish. I was having no luck with pickers taking baits very quickly. Without knowing what these pickers were my guess was sprat salmon trout. However when two other fisherman joined me in the same area fishing light, I questioned my assumption of these fish just being sprats and after watching these two fisherman for 90 seconds one landed a nice mullet in excess of 35cms. This prompted a quick rig change to some size 6 hooks and within 5 minutes I had landed my first Coorong Mullet at approximately 30cms. From then on they continued to bite well and once I had what I needed that was it for me. Although no mulloway were landed I was able to collect a feed and also land my PB mullet at well over 35cms.
