Over the past 4 or 5 months where I have failed to post most of my fishing has been done out of my new kayak, a Malibu Stealth 12, which comparative to my previous yak feels like a ship. As the snapper stocks in this gulf seem to be dwindling comparative to previous years. All of my fishing bar one trip chasing Yellowtail Kingfish, has been done with aim of collecting a seafood basket. My Metro trips have yielded bag limits of whiting dozens of gar, some good size tommies, Snook to 65cms, the odd Blue crab, squid and trevally. Not to mention the dog sharks, eagle rays and banjo sharks which cause the odd issue.
When fishing locally I have found it best to formulate a plan and fish around time periods where you believe fish are going to be most active. It also key to have a back-up plan so if one plan of attack is faulty, you have another at the ready.

When fishing locally in waters classed as semi protected or open you must take care. It is best to utilise Meteye on the BOM website and to stick to winds under 10 knots whilst you gain experience and an understanding of how certain weather phenomenon’s effect the water conditions.
